African Independence

Africa had went through different dramatic changes for over 20 years from around 1955-1975.The Africans had wanted to have independence and be free. They ended up gaining their independence because some of the African countries had fought against other colonists so they could be able to become independent.The Africans wanted to show others that they run their own country and can industrialize . Leopold Senghor was the leader and first president of Senegal. Jomo Kenyatta was a nationalist leader of Kenya. There also was Mobuto who ruled the country of Zaire. Nkrumah was a leader who organized strikes and boycotts.The Gold Coast adopted the name Ghana. Eventually the OAU (Organization of AfricanUnity) and Pan-African Congress was formed.

Film Lesson "The Right Stuff"

In the film "The Right Stuff" , the USSR and the United States were competing .They were competing on who would make the record of breaking the sound barrier. They would do this by making an airplanes. They were also competing on whether who would b the first country to send a man to space. Automatically Russia started building spaceships making them ahead of the u.s. The u.s had started the search of finding the most smartest and most fit people to become a astronaut. Russia had already sent the first man into space. Were the u.s had later sent a monkey into space. Russia had soon one the competition. A scene that would help me remember about the cold war was when they were testing all the people trying to become astronauts i found it very interesting how many test they had to pass. They had to be very healthy,smart and fit to become an astronaut.At the end only seven people became astronauts and passed the test.

NATO and Warsaw Pact

NATO was a North Atlantic Treaty Organization which was created on April 4, 1949.This organization included Europe and North America.NATO was a defence alliance , If any of them would be attacked they would come to each others aid. NATO made new programs, in 1979. The new programs had helped build up defense and helped stop the Soviet Union, from building up their nuclear weapons. The Intermediate Nuclear Treaty in 1987 began the breakdown of the Warsaw Pact. The soviet union controlled it and kept military personnel in other countries. Czechoslovakia and Hungary were members of the Warsaw pact. They were attacked on 1956 by the Soviet union.

Film Lesson: Schindler's List

The movie Schindler's list is a classic directed by Steven Spielberg. In my opinion one of his best. This movie gave you the actual feeling of how the Jews were treated. This movie was very sad and depressing to watch after a while. One of the scenes that i really remember was when all the Jews were being moved to the ghetto even if they were rich. I remember a part when all the Jews were hiding and the would have secret hiding places.But the Germans were not dumb they would search each home and they would listen carefully to the ceiling to see if they hear any noises. Once they heard a noise they would shoot the ceiling and killed who ever was up there. Another powerful scene to me was when all the children were separated from there family's. This was very sad because the mothers and fathers would never see there children again because they would be killed in the concentration camp. I have a lot of respect for Schindler because he saved many of the Jews. He was a good man and had a good heart, by helping save the Jews by making them work in his factory's.

Night and Fog

The historical documentary film "night and Fog" was shown to us so we would actually see how the Jew's were treated during the holocaust. The Jewish people were sent off to the concentrations camps for example , Auschwitz. They were sent off in crowded trains many of them died from starvation n disease while traveling. They also died in gas chambers. This movie was very sad because it showed how much they discriminated against the Jews. Everyone seemed so heartless as if the Jewish people were not humans. They were very cruel and tortured them harshly.

The Treaty of Versallies

Germany was fighting a an alliance between France, Italy, Britain, Russia . Germany had ended WWI war on November 11, 1918.They decided to make an agreement and had signed the Treaty of Versailles ,blaming the cause of the war on Germany. The treaty of Versailles was signed in one of the largest places , palace of Versailles in France.The treaty had forced Germany to give up all they had and started a recession. The League of Nations took control of all their colonies. In my opinion i don't think that the treaty of Versailles was not fair because they took everything of Germany's. In many others opinions they believe that the treaty of Versailles why the rise of Adolph Hitler and fascism.He had became the new dictator of Germany.Which he mostly took advantage of because he knew everyone had hope that they he would help bring Germany up again.

Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk) and the Modernization of Turkey

He was the president of Turkey for 15 years, and he goes by the name of "The Father of Turkey". Before being a president Mustafa Kemal was a commander leader because of all his victories and political reformation . Turkey had been formed as a new nation. He believed that there should be a dress code were all the people had to dress and live just like the Europeans. He also established laws which state proper clothing like ties ,pants,shirts, and hats instead of dressing in the certain kind of clothing. they had Legal systems that everyone was equal according to the law. He had improved the agricultural expansion, technological advancement, and industrial growth. His work was very impressive and helped the nation in many different ways.
Secular means to have reference to worldly things or to things that are not regarded as religious, spiritual or scared.

Mahatma Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi used different ways to gain independence from the Great British. But unlike other great leaders Gandhi was against violence and only ways of piece. An example of his non-violence action was the salt march.The salt march was when the Gandhi and the other Indians had refused to buying salt from the British. So the decided to march on the sea coast and make their own salt. Another way that Gandhi used to gain independence in a peaceful way was when every one had boycotted of buying cloth from the British. So instead if buying it everyone had made there own cloths. The British had got really made and would on strike at Gandhi with violence. Even though the British used violence buy killing the Indians ,Gandhi still never gave he with his leadership with non violence. In my opinion i think that Gandhi contributed a lot in order for the Indians to gain independence, because he tried to bring together the Muslims and the Hindus. Since Gandhi united the two different groups I think that is the only reason why they won against the British because they learned how to work together.

The Russian Revolution

After World War one, Russia's economy and Government. Many things happened such as shortages and hunger in Russia. The Russian Revolution was from 1917 through 1918. Czar had lead them throughout the war many people were fed up. Tsar Nicolas made a decision to take command of an army that seemed to make him have responsibility for all the defeats. In March of the year of 1917 , people revolted and Tsar lost his power. The Revolution had begun, and also the over overthrown of the Provisional Government. The Soviet Union replaced the Russian Tsar System and now Russia was considered a Communist country. The violent communist group gained power in Russia. Their leader was Lenin who followed the teaching of Karl Marx.

The Opium wars

 Opium is like a pain remover that comes from a flower called the poppy.The opium was was between china and the Europeans. The people from china was very well addicted to the drug and many were afraid it would hurt there economy. The Chinese would get the opium from the british because the British wanted to trade with china because of the high resource of tea they had.But mostly the British were very upset because they thought that by trading with china they would get affected. So they had war between both countries.The British one because of the advance in technology compared to china. Later after the deafeated  china was forced with no decision to sign the treaty of Nanjing in 1842 also Treaty of Bogue in 1843.

Some hardships that they had went through was that the africans were dying. Also some of the afrians would run away or the food would get stolen as well as there valuables. Another hardship was when they were attacked by the natives. It was named after Queen Victoria because when they found it they named it after there queen. It was weird because it was in the middle of africa and it was the name of an eglish queen. The Eurooeans had advanced to technology compared to the africans who were poor. The europeans had guns and other materials that the africans had never seen in there life.The europeans were advanced in there weapons so many of the africans were feared that if they dont listen they would die.

Japan is a archipelago , mostly surrounded by water giving them advantages of trading. Japan had been isolated.Not aware of the new technology and advances of the world. Japans isolation was caused by the americans , Mathew perry had threaten japan. Japan had started to westernize by Tokugawa. The Meiji restoration had later came when Emperor Mustsushito had overthrown Tokugawa and restored to power. He had made everything in Japan modern.In fear that they were going to become a colony they had started to take over countries.Japan had defeated Russia. Many had thought that the Eastern and Asian countries were not as strong as them. Later korea had became a part of japan.

Karl Marx and communism

Communism was created by Karl Marx. Communism is a system in which the government controls it's people. This government would be made up of the working class, the proletariat.He had thought majority should win.Karl Marx set the basic rules for Communism like people getting equal pay and having the same rights because he wanted to get rid of the idea of Capitalism.He believed that everyone should have the same pay in other words equality.

Karl Marx was a German-Jew who's ideas made a difference in Russia. He disagreed with the industrial revolution. His ideas were known as Communism. He thought that workers should control the factories instead of the landlords. Also he did not like the harsh conditions that the workers had worked in. He thought they should stand up for themselves and come in unity. He believed that workers had the power so they would control the government. AN important part during the industrial revolution was social class, two of them which were, bourgeoisie who were the landowners and the proletariat who were the workers.

Nationalism is one persons pride or loyalty to there culture.To be a Nationalistic, you must support a nation of people and be faithful to that nation and patriotic.If you are a nationalist then do what you need to help your country. When people show there pride they do it in many ways. People that are Nationalistic have no shame on showing there pride .They do many things such as hanging up there flags , saluting to there nation.Italy was formed from the territory of the destroyed empires. Italy was ruled by foreigners. A man formed a group a group known as Young Italy. Young Italy's purpose was to unite Italy and free it from Kings and Nobles. The group was sent to exile during its faliure.But because of nationalist Italy was able to come together because of its pride and they were united.

Simon Bolivar and the Latin American Revolution

Simon bolivar led the Spanish to to the Latin American revolution. Also Known as the liberator of south America. He was one of the great leaders. He had believed that people should have the power. Simon Bolivar was a well known revolutionist. He was a very intelligent guy who had a great education. He had one the independence of Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and Venezuela. Simon had went to London. He had went to gain as much support as he could get so he was able to fight for the freedom of the southern countries. On the trip back he had learned all the types of American laws from the government. By learning all the information he was able to make a army which had won the freedom of Venezuela which made him want to help the other countries. He had accomplished his goal of getting the freedom for all his countries. The country Bolivia was named after him to show there gratitude for him.

Robespierre and The Reign of Terror

After the French Revolution had past a group of Radical who were against the ideas led the Reign of Terror.The reign of terror was a period of violence.King Louis lost power that was due to a monarchy that was set up. The king had not trusted the new government. Maximilien Robespierre was the one who had took control of the new government. For some reason he tried to wipe out any rules from the old government. There was some new rules that he had made one of the most important ,The Reign of Terror. Many people felt he shouldn't of been trusted mostly because they were scared. During the reign of terror over 3,000 people had died from execution.

France was known as the most advanced country in Europe. They were separated in different classes or also known as estates. During the french revolution most of the population came from the third estate. Some of the types of people that came from the third estates were merchants or even farmers people that the king didn't really pay mind to. The third estate had to pay the most tax out of all the estates , even though they didn't have a lot of money. This really got the third estate mad because the nobles ,clergy didn't have to pay anything. But without the farmers the while feudal system would break down because the farmers do a lot of work. In France the third estate would be considered most rich because that is were all the population of France is in , the third estate.

John Locke and "The Enlighment"

John Locke had a modern outlook on life. He believed that everyone should be equal. So he came up with the natural rights. They were life , liberty and property.He was very concerned and believed that everyone should be treated equally because we are all humans. His arguments on this was so strong that Thomas Jefferson wrote about it in the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson had wrote about all men having the same rights from which they are born till they die.Also that god gave us the rights and no one can take them away. All the ideas from todays democracy had came from John Locke. He was one of the most important people in U.S history.

Copernicus and the trial of Galieo

Heliocentric is a theory that the sun is located at the center of the solar system. In the 16th century Copernicus made a mathematical model of a heliocentric system. Later on ended up defended by Galileo, making a big disagreement about it. Geocentric is a science where the earth is the center of the solar system and the other planets and the sun revolve around the earth.

The trial of Galileo was a very important trial because it was the trial against Galileo and the catholic church. The reason why he was put to the trial was because he was basically questioning the church. He was questioning them about , how he thinks that the earth did not sit in the center of the universe. He was sent to have house arrest , he was really lucky though because they were going to kill him. Galileo even had discovered a telescope in order to help prove his theory but it did not work.

Scientific Method

The scientific method is in which took place during the scientific revolution. During this time everyone would tryout each others theories to see if they were true. The scientific method is useful for everyday.The scientist attempts to make the influence of the scientist's outcome of an experiment smaller. They write hypothesis, observations. Using all the information for there experiment they produce a theory.

An example of the scientific method was when Aristotle believed that heavy objects fell faster than lighter objects. Later on a man named Galileo tested the theory. Supposedly he went to the Leaning Tower of Pisa and dropped different stones of many weights to the ground. Aristotle was wrong, objects of different weights fall at the same speed.

Evolution vs. Creationism

Evolution is a process of formation or growth threw out time. Charles Darwin had created the theory of evolution. It indicated that all forms of life was related from common ancestors. Meaning that we had evolved.According to the theory we evolved in order to be able to survive buy using our surrounding's. Also known as natural selection. Natural selection is organisms that best adapt to their environment so they can be able to survive and use there characteristics to live. If you believe in evolution you believe that life was created on its own.

Creationism is the belief the creation of the universe and all living things are created by God. This was another way that a lot of people think that the world was created. This is the total opposite opinion on the way that the world was created.According to Genesis Chapter 1 the world was created in 7 days,they believe that life was originally created from Adam and Eve. The belief claims that existing things were called into being by God's command.

Many people have different opinions on whether life was created by evolution or creationism. My opinion is that life was created by creationism because I believe that God had created earth. I was taught that threw life. Even though Darwin's theory is backed up, i still think that we were all made for a purpose and that science should not be said as the cause of the beginning of the world or trying to over power the beliefs of religion.
